Parents or guardians can submit written objection to prevent their child from taking comprehensive sex education classes in grades 6-12 without penalty to the student.

All sex education classes in grades 6-12 must be developmentally and age-appropriate, medically accurate, complete, and based on evidence-based programs.

Course instruction must include substantial emphasis on both abstinence and contraception, discussion of emotional/psychological consequences of sexual activity, and information on sexually transmitted diseases and condom effectiveness rates.

New requirement: Course material must include age-appropriate instruction on the meaning of consent, including that consent is freely given, can be withdrawn at any time, and cannot be given if a person is incapacitated, asleep, a minor, or mentally disabled.

Schools must provide parents and guardians the opportunity to examine instructional materials, and the State Board of Education shall make resource materials available on its website to assist districts in developing compliant sex education curricula.
