IL HB3593

Amends the Counties Code Section 2-1003 to establish removal procedures for county board chairmen who are chosen by the board rather than elected by voters.

Allows removal of a board-chosen chairman with or without cause by an affirmative vote of four-fifths of the county board members.

Upon removal, the chairman position becomes vacant, the former chairman's compensation is prorated to the date of removal, and the vice-chairman immediately assumes duties without chairman compensation.

Requires a new chairman to be elected at the next regularly scheduled county board meeting following removal.

A removed chairman retains their status as a county board member.
