HB3846 Summary

• Amends the Counties Code to allow counties with 800,000 to 3,000,000 residents to impose a hotel tax on rooms located within municipalities that already impose a municipal hotel operators' occupation tax.

• Requires that tax proceeds from the county hotel tax within such municipalities be expended solely to promote tourism and economic development in the county.

• Adds language clarifying that the existing exception to county hotel tax restrictions applies through a new subsection (a-5) in Section 5-1030 of the Counties Code.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
