HB4001 Summary

• Amends Section 6-303 of the Illinois Vehicle Code by relocating language that previously appeared in subsection (a-7) to a new Section 6-303.1.

• Creates new Section 6-303.1 establishing that persons driving with suspended or revoked licenses due to failure to pay civil penalties or child support under Sections 6-306.5 or 7-702 shall receive a Uniform Traffic Citation instead of criminal charges.

• A person receiving 3 or more Uniform Traffic Citations under Section 6-303.1 without paying associated fees is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.

• Removes the previous subsection (a-7) language entirely and updates cross-references throughout the code to reference the new Section 6-303.1.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
