Landfills located within 1,000 feet of township roads, county roads, state highways, or interstate highways must screen their operations from public view using barriers at least 8 feet tall (natural objects, fences, barricades, or plants)

No part of a landfill may be located within 1,000 feet of an occupied dwelling, school, or hospital that existed when the operator first applied for a development permit, unless the building owner provides written permission

Landfill setback regulation is designated as an exclusive state power, preempting home rule units from establishing their own landfill setback requirements
