HB4228 Summary

• Requires county elected officers' compensation to be fixed by ordinance or resolution of the county board or board of county commissioners at least 180 days before officers' terms begin.

• Mandates that county boards separately list each stipend an elected officer is expected to receive in addition to county-paid compensation, including stipends from Property Tax Code sections, Counties Code sections, and the Clerks of Courts Act.

• Removes the prohibition against county boards reducing county-funded compensation to county officers based on their receipt of state-funded awards or stipends.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
