IL HB4249

Amends the Code of Civil Procedure Section 13-214.1 regarding civil actions for damages arising from criminal acts.

Establishes a 10-year limitation period for actions involving damages from first degree murder or Class X felonies, measured from when the perpetrator completes their sentence.

Establishes a 10-year limitation period for actions involving theft exceeding $100,000, identity theft, aggravated identity theft, financial exploitation of elderly persons or persons with disabilities, and offenses under Criminal Code Articles 16H or Section 17-10.6, measured from the last act committed in furtherance of the crime.

Provides that if any other law establishes a longer limitation period for these criminal-related actions, the longer period applies instead.

Specifies that subsection (b) applies only to causes of action accruing on or after July 1, 2009.
