An appointed trustee's term terminates immediately upon becoming a member of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) or being sworn into an elective State office, with the position considered vacant and filled per existing procedures.

An elected trustee to a participating employee position elected after this act's effective date is disqualified immediately upon termination of their status as a participating employee.

An elected trustee to an annuitant position elected after this act's effective date is disqualified immediately upon termination of their status as an annuitant receiving a retirement annuity.

An elected trustee who was incumbent on the effective date and whose participating employee or annuitant status terminates after being elected may continue serving the remainder of their term.
