HB4644 Summary

• Removes the requirement that persons 35 years of age or older must have served as a firefighter for the 5 years immediately preceding a municipality's transition to full-time firefighters in order to take a firefighter examination.

• Allows persons 35 years of age or older who have served a municipality as a regularly enrolled volunteer, paid-on-call, or part-time firefighter to be eligible to take a firefighter examination without the prior 5-year restriction.

• Applies to the Illinois Municipal Code (Sections 10-1-7.1 and 10-2.1-6.3) and the Fire Protection District Act (Section 16.06b) for original appointments to full-time fire departments.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
