HB4825 Summary

• Amends the Vital Records Act to authorize advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) to complete and sign death certificates and medical certifications of cause of death, in addition to physicians.

• Allows APRNs to sign medical certifications within 48 hours after death for patients under their care, or in the absence of a physician with the physician's approval.

• Extends APRN authority to fetal death certificates, permitting APRNs to complete medical certification within 24 hours after delivery.

• Makes gender-neutral language updates throughout the statute, replacing masculine pronouns with "he or she" and "his or her."

• Takes effect January 1, 2021.
