• County board chairperson may appoint an outside attorney as legal counsel to the county board with advice and consent of the board.

• Chairperson may select the State's Attorney to serve as legal counsel, with additional compensation determined as appropriate.

• Chairperson may discontinue the appointment of outside counsel by written order filed with the county clerk, and outside counsel has no claim for compensation after discontinuance.

• Vacancies in the outside counsel position may be filled using the same appointment process.

• If a State's Attorney serves as legal counsel, this duty is in addition to their statutory duties under Division 3-9, and they shall not receive additional compensation for this role.
