IL HB4909

Makes it unlawful (Class B misdemeanor) for attorneys or their representatives to make false or deceptive statements about settlement funds or pending legal matters to induce clients to sign employment contracts.

Prohibits specific deceptive claims including: statements that a limited pot of money is available to individuals, that it is the last chance to seek compensation, or similar misleading statements.

Requires attorneys who obtained employment contracts before the effective date through violations of this law to inform their clients within 6 months that false or deceptive statements were made.

Requires attorneys to obtain written client consent within 6 months of the effective date to continue representing clients in pending legal matters if the contract was obtained through violations of this law.

Maintains existing prohibition on non-attorneys soliciting claims for personal injuries or death for compensation.
