HB4996 Summary

• Creates new definition of "wild swine" in the Wildlife Code to include feral swine, Eurasian wild boar (Sus scrofa), and hybrids between feral and Eurasian wild boar.

• Adds wild swine as a protected species under the Wildlife Code, subject to the same regulations as other protected wildlife.

• Allows wild swine to be taken by hunting methods at any time without seasonal restrictions.

• Permits wild swine to be taken during open season using a small light that is worn on the body or hand-held by a person on foot and not in any vehicle.

• Effective immediately upon becoming law.
