Police officers who begin service on or after the effective date of this act will forfeit all pension benefits upon conviction of any felony, regardless of whether it relates to their service as an officer

Officers who began service before the effective date retain the current standard: pension forfeiture only applies to felonies relating to, arising out of, or in connection with their service as a police officer

Survivor benefits are also subject to forfeiture under the same expanded standard if the underlying officer's service began on or after the effective date

Applies to both Downstate Police and Chicago Police pension systems under the Illinois Pension Code (40 ILCS 5/3-147 and 5/5-227)

New officers are deemed to have consented to these provisions as a condition of participation in the pension system; changes do not impair vested rights acquired prior to the effective date
