School boards must require schools to provide daily supervised, unstructured, child-directed play for all students in kindergarten through grade 8.

Daily play time must total at least 60 minutes, with individual play periods lasting at least 15 consecutive minutes, and cannot include computers, tablets, phones, or videos.

Schools are encouraged but not required to hold play time outdoors, and play time may include both unstructured play and organized games.

Play time cannot be withheld as a disciplinary or punitive action, and does not count toward physical education requirements or vice versa.

Play time counts as clock hours toward instructional time requirements, effective July 1, 2020.
