Defines "investigative work" as requiring systematic inquiry into obtaining and examining facts and evidence, excluding simple information gathering

Changes the pension board's authority from mandatory ("shall") to discretionary ("may") when reconsidering applications for service credit for Cook County safety or investigative work submitted between January 1, 1992 and April 1, 2008 that were previously denied

Requires police officers to contribute required amounts within 5 years after application approval but before retirement to receive service credit, with the officer solely responsible for ensuring contributions are received by the fund

Beginning January 1, 2021, applicants must have been on an official leave of absence from the Chicago Police Department to qualify for service credit while performing safety or investigative work for Cook County
