Schools must notify parents or guardians if a student threatens to commit suicide or searches the Internet using school-provided devices for suicide-related information or terms.

Schools must produce and maintain records verifying that parents or guardians were notified of suicide threats or incidents, in compliance with state law and federal privacy requirements including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

School boards must adopt policies outlining the process for notifying parents or guardians and producing and retaining notification records.

Schools must inform parents or guardians of available social work services, mental health services, counseling, and other interventions, and must provide these services upon parental request.

Students may request copies of records maintained under this section and may request expungement of records after graduating from high school.
