State Board of Education shall develop a model youth suicide awareness and prevention policy in consultation with youth suicide prevention organizations and school board representatives.

State Board of Education must compile and post on its website recommended guidelines for staff training and age-appropriate educational materials on youth suicide awareness and prevention.

School boards must adopt or update suicide awareness and prevention policies by the 2015-2016 school year that include prevention methods, intervention procedures, response protocols, and reporting procedures.

Policies must address emotional and mental health safety plans for students at increased risk, including those with mental health or substance abuse disorders, self-harm history, homelessness, LGBTQ status, or other specified risk factors.

School boards must inform all employees and parents of adopted policies and post policies on publicly accessible websites.
