HB5659 Summary

• Amends the Pharmacy Practice Act to require Department of Financial and Professional Regulation actions on pharmacy licenses to be subject to approval by a newly created Disciplinary Review Board rather than being made solely at the Department's discretion.

• Creates a 9-member Disciplinary Review Board selected by the Governor from recommendations submitted by the Association of Indian American Pharmacists, Illinois Pharmacists Association, and Illinois Retail Merchants Association to approve all disciplinary findings and actions.

• Requires the Disciplinary Review Board to approve results of disciplinary hearings before reports are submitted to the Department and prohibits the Department from denying licensure applications or taking disciplinary or non-disciplinary actions without Board approval.

• Board must review disciplinary decisions issued within 18 months prior to the Act's effective date regarding refusal to issue or renew licenses and decisions to take disciplinary action against licenses.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
