Expresses concern that approximately 14,000 nuclear weapons exist globally and the United States maintains nearly 1,000 on high alert, creating risks of accidents and miscalculation

States that the sole purpose of U.S. nuclear weapons should be to deter nuclear attacks and calls for verifiable agreements with other nuclear-armed nations to reduce and eliminate nuclear weapons

Directs copies of the resolution to be sent to the President, Vice President, Congressional leadership, and Illinois Congressional Delegation members
