Recognizes that California became the first state to ban discrimination against Black students and employees over natural hairstyles through the CROWN (Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair) Act

Acknowledges that school and workplace dress code and grooming policies prohibiting natural hair styles including afros, braids, twists, and locks have a disparate impact on Black individuals

States that hair discrimination remains a rampant source of racial discrimination with serious economic and health consequences, and that exclusion from schools and workplaces based on hair perpetuates achievement and wealth gaps

Encourages Illinois state policymakers to introduce legislation prohibiting discrimination against traits historically associated with race, including natural hair textures and protective hairstyles

Directs transmission of the resolution to federal and state government officials and agencies
