Richard E. "Rich" Herrin passed away on December 25, 2020, and the Illinois House of Representatives mourns his passing.

Herrin compiled 981 victories over a 52-year coaching career at Okawville High School, Benton High School (25 years), Southern Illinois University (13 years), Marion High School (5 years), and Morthland College (5 years).

At SIU, he was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 1990 and led the Salukis to three consecutive MVC Tournament championships (1993, 1994, 1995) and three NCAA tournament appearances.

Herrin was inducted into the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame, Southern Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame, and halls of fame at McKendree University, SIU, the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, and the Missouri Valley Conference.

The resolution extends condolences to Herrin's family and directs that a suitable copy be presented to his family as an expression of sympathy.
