Scott J. Helton, Ed.D., passed away on December 10, 2020, and the Illinois House of Representatives mourns his death.

Superintendent Helton had a 33-year career in education, serving as a science teacher, dean, assistant principal, and principal of Addison Trail High School for 11 years before becoming superintendent of DuPage High School District 88 in 2012.

As superintendent, Helton expanded dual-credit and Advanced Placement courses, supported career and technical education, and worked to ensure students had internet connectivity before the COVID-19 pandemic forced remote learning.

Helton coached youth sports and served as president of the Rotary Club in Villa Park and Lombard, leaving a legacy as a leader, collaborator, and visionary educator.

The House extends sincere condolences to Helton's family, including his three sons, and directs that a copy of this resolution be presented to his family.
