SB0141 Summary

• Changes petition signature requirements for new political parties to match the minimum signature requirement for Statewide office candidates of established political parties (replaces prior calculation of 1% of voters or 25,000 signatures, whichever is less).

• Updates signature requirements for new political parties in districts or subdivisions less than the entire State to equal the highest minimum petition signature requirement for any office on the slate (replaces prior 5% calculation).

• Aligns independent candidate nomination petition signatures with established party candidate requirements for the same office, including any signature filing limits.

• Eliminates special redistricting provisions that previously set fixed signature minimums (5,000 for congressional districts, 3,000 for legislative districts, 1,500 for representative districts, and 25-qualified voter minimums for local districts).

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
