SB1198 - Music Therapy Licensing and Practice Act

• Establishes licensure of music therapists by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, requiring applicants to hold a bachelor's degree in music therapy from an AMTA-approved program and complete at least 1,200 hours of clinical training (180 pre-internship, 900 internship hours).

• Creates a 5-member Music Therapy Advisory Committee to advise the Department on licensure, education, continuing education requirements, and disciplinary matters related to music therapists.

• Requires board certification through the Certification Board for Music Therapists and completion of 40 continuing education hours every 2 years for license renewal, with a waiver of examination requirements until January 1, 2023 for currently registered music therapists.

• Establishes collaboration requirements with other licensed professionals (speech-language pathologists, audiologists, physicians, psychologists) when providing music therapy services for communication, medical, developmental, or mental health conditions.

• Prohibits unlicensed practice of music therapy and use of the title "music therapist" without a valid license, with civil penalties up to $10,000 per violation and criminal penalties as Class A misdemeanor for violations.
