SB1340 Summary

• Removes the State Superintendent of Education's requirement to limit each annual cohort of the competency-based high school graduation requirements pilot program to 12 school districts for the first 2 cohorts and 15 for subsequent cohorts.

• Allows unlimited numbers of school districts to participate in each annual cohort of the pilot program, subject to other existing restrictions such as the 6-school maximum for districts with populations exceeding 500,000.

• Maintains all other requirements for pilot program participation including demonstration of commitment from superintendents, school boards, teachers, and postsecondary partners, as well as the establishment of standing planning and implementation committees with teacher representation.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
