SB1381 Summary

• Eliminates Class III highway designations from the Illinois Vehicle Code and reclassifies highways into Class I, Class II, and non-designated categories.

• Redefines Class II highways to include State highways and designated local roads with at least 11-foot lane widths, replacing the previous "major arterials" definition.

• Establishes uniform length limitations for vehicle combinations on non-designated highways (65 feet for truck tractor-semitrailer combinations, 60 feet for other combinations), effective January 1, 2018, without requiring municipalities to retrofit roads constructed before that date.

• Requires local agencies to report Class II designated streets and highways to the Department of Transportation and allows reporting of local vehicle operation limitations for posting on the Department's website.

• Modifies Section 15-316 to allow Class II roadway designations by ordinance without requiring physical signs, provided the designation is reported to the Department.
