Restricts venue for actions against non-resident defendants to the county where the transaction giving rise to the cause of action occurred, rather than allowing actions in any county.

Redefines corporate residence for venue purposes as limited to counties where a corporation has its registered office or other office, removing the previous standard of "doing business" in a county.

Applies similar residence restrictions to partnerships and voluntary unincorporated associations, limiting venue to counties where they have offices rather than where they conduct business.

Eliminates the provision allowing insurance companies incorporated or doing business in Illinois to be sued in any county where a plaintiff resides.

Requires dismissal for lack of proper venue when no defendants are residents of Illinois and no part of the transaction occurred in the state.

Makes all changes applicable only to causes of action filed on or after the effective date of the amendatory act.
