SB1467 Summary

• Amends the MIA/POW Scholarship program to expand eligibility for dependents of eligible veterans or servicepersons by allowing those who are currently Illinois residents and were Illinois residents for at least 15 consecutive years at some point after leaving service, removing the previous 30-year continuous residency requirement.

• Modifies the Illinois Veteran Grant program to add a new category (paragraph 5) allowing veterans who do not meet initial residency requirements to qualify if they are currently Illinois residents and were Illinois residents for at least 15 consecutive years after leaving federal active duty service.

• Maintains the benefit structure of 4 calendar years of full-time enrollment (including summer terms) for both programs at state-supported Illinois institutions of higher learning.

• Takes effect July 1, 2019.
