IL SB1469

Amends the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act to establish criteria for determining partisanship of Governor-appointed officials to positions requiring specific partisan affiliation or limiting appointees from a single political party.

Voting record in the 3 general primary elections immediately preceding the appointment determines the appointee's partisanship for their entire term of office.

Individuals who did not vote, did not request a partisan ballot, or requested ballots for 2 or more different political parties in those 3 primary elections are deemed independent for partisanship purposes.

Appointees cannot be disqualified from continuing in office during their term based on how they vote in general primary elections after their appointment.

Provision applies to all nominations by the Governor on or after the effective date of this Act and covers regular, acting, and temporary appointments.
