SB1501 Summary

• Amends the Dual Credit Quality Act to allow highly qualified high school instructors, as determined by a school board, to teach up to 8 hours of credit-bearing college-level dual credit courses per academic year with community college approval without meeting academic credential requirements, higher certification requirements, or additional requirements under Article 21B of the School Code.

• Maintains existing standards for dual credit courses including equivalent course content, identical learning outcomes, annual course review by faculty, and consistent student assessment methods.

• Requires dual credit instructors to participate in institutional orientation on curriculum, assessment methods, and administrative requirements.

• Provides opportunity for dual credit instructors to participate in professional development activities, seminars, site visits, and internal communications without interfering with regular teaching duties.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
