IL SB1523

Amends Section 11-701 of the Illinois Vehicle Code to restrict left lane use on Interstate highways and fully access-controlled freeways, except when overtaking/passing another vehicle or following traffic markings, signs, signals, or directions from authorized traffic personnel.

Removes the exemption that previously allowed vehicles to remain in the left lane when no other vehicle was directly behind them.

Maintains existing exceptions to the left lane restriction for traffic congestion, inclement weather, obstructions, lane changes required by law, highway design, toll highway I-Pass usage, and emergency/maintenance vehicles.
