IL SB1619

Amends the Illinois Police Training Act to require the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board to include specific techniques for interviewing minors in curriculum standards for sexual assault and sexual abuse cases.

Expands the requirement for evidence-based curriculum standards on trauma-informed, victim-centered, age-sensitive investigation and interviewing techniques to apply to all probationary police officers and all law enforcement officers (previously limited only to officers who conduct sexual assault and sexual abuse investigations).

Mandates that training curriculum standards specifically address trauma-informed responses, recognizing trauma symptoms, understanding victims' needs, and delivering compassionate services in sexual assault and sexual abuse cases.

Requires instructors providing this training to have successfully completed evidence-based, trauma-informed training and have experience responding to sexual assault and sexual abuse cases.

Directs the Board to adopt rules in consultation with the Illinois Attorney General and Department of State Police to determine specific training requirements for all law enforcement personnel.
