SB1959 - Reduced Filing Fees for Seniors and Veterans Act

• Authorizes the Illinois Supreme Court to implement a program offering 50% reduced civil case filing fees for seniors aged 65 and older and members of the U.S. Armed Forces, Illinois National Guard, or Armed Forces Reserves, effective January 1, 2020.

• Requires applicants to present valid state identification, driver's license, or armed forces identification card at the time of filing each civil case to qualify for the reduced fee.

• Adds a new subsection (j) to the Code of Civil Procedure establishing the fee reduction as discretionary court program authority rather than a mandatory requirement.

• Acknowledges the contributions of seniors and veterans and expresses legislative intent to offer them reduced court fees in recognition of their service.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
