IL SB2047

Adds new Section 356z.33 to the Illinois Insurance Code requiring health insurance policies that provide prescription drug benefits to offer generic alternatives to brand name epinephrine and insulin auto-injectors, effective for policies amended, delivered, issued, or renewed after the effective date.

Expands required health benefits across multiple state insurance programs (state employees, counties, municipalities, school districts, and public aid recipients) to include coverage for epinephrine and insulin auto-injectors under new Section 356z.33.

Requires the Department of Insurance to enforce new auto-injector coverage requirements for state employees, school districts, and public aid recipients, while the Department of Central Management Services enforces requirements for state employees.

Applies the new coverage mandate to Health Maintenance Organizations, Limited Health Service Organizations, and Voluntary Health Services Plans by adding Section 356z.33 to their applicable Illinois Insurance Code provisions.
