IL SB2048

Creates the Fire and Smoke Damper Inspection Act establishing inspection and testing requirements for fire and smoke dampers in commercial structures and hospitals.

Requires initial inspection and testing of fire and smoke dampers within one year of installation, followed by inspections at least once every 4 years for commercial structures and once every 6 years for hospitals.

Mandates that inspections be conducted by individuals certified by the International Certification Board and American National Standards Institute, certifying compliance with Section 717 of the 2012 International Building Code.

Specifies detailed inspection requirements including verification of unobstructed access, damper actuation and cycling, fusible link testing and replacement, structural integrity checks, and comprehensive documentation of findings and corrections.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
