SB2108 Summary

• Transfers administration of the Illinois Motor Carrier Safety Law from the Department of Transportation (in conjunction with the Illinois State Police) to the Department of State Police alone, effective July 1, 2019.

• Transfers administration of the Illinois Hazardous Materials Transportation Act from the Department of Transportation to the Department of State Police.

• Appropriates $20,000,000 annually from the Road Fund to the Department of State Police beginning fiscal year 2020 to administer both the Motor Carrier Safety Law and Hazardous Materials Safety Act.

• Eliminates the previous cap on Road Fund appropriations to the Department of State Police and replaces it with a fixed $20,000,000 annual appropriation for these two specific functions.

• Makes conforming changes to the Illinois Vehicle Code and Illinois Hazardous Materials Transportation Act to reflect the Department of State Police as the administering agency.
