IL SB2546

Amends the Criminal Code of 2012 to expand the prohibition on animal use in traveling animal acts beyond elephants to include bears, cougars, jaguars, leopards (excluding clouded leopards), lions, non-human primates, and tigers, including hybrids thereof.

Makes it illegal for a person to knowingly allow any of these specified animals to participate in a traveling animal act, defined as performances where animals are transported between locations in mobile housing facilities for public exhibition or entertainment.

Establishes unlawful use of an animal in a traveling animal act as a Class A misdemeanor offense.

Excludes exhibitions of these animals at non-mobile, permanent institutions or other stationary facilities from the prohibition.

Takes effect January 1, 2021.
