SB2642 Summary

• Amends the Gun Trafficking Information Act (5 ILCS 830/10-5) to make a technical change correcting duplicate language in Section 10-5(a)

• Requires the Department of State Police to make publicly available on a regular basis key information about firearms used in crimes, including crime reports, locations, casualties, firearm origin states, Federal Firearms Licensee seller information, and firearm types

• Mandates the Department file reports electronically with the Governor and General Assembly, with reports to the legislature filed with the House Clerk and Senate Secretary in electronic form only

• Requires the Department to study Firearm Owner's Identification Card checks on a regular basis to identify firearms trafficking and straw purchase patterns, and share reports with academic institutions, foundations, and law enforcement agencies while protecting personally identifying information

• Directs all state departments and agencies to cooperate with the Department of State Police and provide necessary information and assistance, with the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority required to submit crime information to support the Department's duties
