IL SB2709

Amends the Unified Code of Corrections Section 3-2.5-15 concerning the Department of Juvenile Justice assuming duties of the Juvenile Division of the Department of Corrections.

Makes a technical grammatical change to subsection (a) by striking and replacing "The" at the beginning of the provision.

Retains existing provisions regarding transfer of personnel, records, property, and appropriations to the Department of Juvenile Justice, with employee rights under the Personnel Code unaffected.

Maintains education and age requirements for newly hired Department of Juvenile Justice personnel involved in youth rehabilitation and training, with exceptions for security, clerical, food service, and maintenance staff.

Preserves the Director of Juvenile Justice's authority to organize divisions, assign functions, enter intergovernmental cooperation agreements for county juvenile programs, and collect ethnic and racial background data as required by the Criminal Identification Act.
