IL SB2933

Requires sheriffs to possess a certificate of successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Officers Training Course as prescribed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, or completion of a substantially similar training program from another state or the federal government.

Exempts sheriffs currently serving at the time this bill becomes effective from the new training requirement.

Removes language that previously exempted elected county sheriffs from certification requirements under the Illinois Police Training Act.

Applies the training requirement to all persons elected or appointed to the office of sheriff going forward, in addition to existing qualifications of U.S. citizenship, one year county residency, and no felony convictions.
