SB3027 Summary

• Extends the deadline for teachers to apply for optional service credit for employment at private schools recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education from August 1, 2012 to June 30, 2021.

• Allows teachers and administrators who were certified at the time of service to claim up to 2 years of private school employment as creditable service toward their Teachers' Retirement System pension.

• Requires applicants to have completed at least 10 years of contributing service as a teacher and to pay required contributions under Section 16-128 to qualify for the private school service credit.

• Permits members to apply for and pay contributions before completing the 10-year contributing service requirement, but credit cannot be used until that requirement is satisfied.

• Prohibits service credit for employment with entities that provide substitute teaching services under School Code Section 2-3.173 that are not school districts.
