SB3126 Summary

• Renames the "Illinois State Medical Disciplinary Board" to the "Illinois State Medical Board" and consolidates references throughout the Medical Practice Act of 1987.

• Increases the Medical Board from 11 to 17 members, adding one physician assistant representative and increasing MD, DO, and chiropractic physician representation.

• Grants the Secretary of Financial and Professional Regulation authority to take action contrary to the Medical Board's recommendation or order a rehearing if substantial justice has not been done.

• Allows the Department to close complaints after investigation and Chief Medical Coordinator approval if allegations would not constitute a violation, insufficient evidence exists, or complaining parties are uncooperative.

• Makes technical changes including adding "email" as notification method, correcting grammar, and repealing obsolete board provisions (Sections 8, 9.3, and 44).
