IL SB3159

Amends the Pharmacy Practice Act by adding Section 43 to require pharmacists or their authorized employees to disclose the current pharmacy retail price to consumers at the point of sale for each prescription medication being purchased.

Defines "pharmacy retail price" as the price an uninsured individual without prescription drug coverage would pay at a retail pharmacy, excluding pharmacist dispensing fees.

Requires pharmacists to specifically inform consumers when their cost-sharing amount (copay/coinsurance) exceeds the pharmacy retail price, alerting them that paying cash may be cheaper than using insurance.

Defines "cost-sharing" as amounts owed under health insurance policy terms or as required by a pharmacy benefit manager as defined in the Illinois Insurance Code.

Becomes effective immediately upon passage.
