SB3246 Summary

• Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to require motor vehicle accident reports and requests for accident reports to be submitted electronically rather than in written form.

• Modifies nine sections of the Vehicle Code (11-404, 11-408, 11-409, 11-411, 11-412, 11-414, 11-415, 11-416, and 11-417) to replace references to "written" reports with "electronic" reports throughout accident reporting procedures.

• Requires the Department to prepare and supply electronic accident report forms to police departments, sheriffs, and other agencies, with forms to contain detailed information about accident cause, conditions, persons, and vehicles involved.

• Maintains confidentiality protections for accident reports while allowing electronic submission, and preserves existing provisions regarding fees for providing report copies to the public.

• Takes effect January 1, 2022.
