SB3306 Summary

• Amends the Abandoned Newborn Infant Protection Act to allow hospitals, fire stations, emergency medical facilities, and police stations to accept newborns left in approved "newborn safety devices" located at their facilities.

• Requires newborn safety devices at fire stations, emergency medical facilities, and police stations to be located in conspicuous areas and include a dual alarm system tested monthly; hospitals must have devices approved by the hospital and located inside the facility.

• Grants civil liability immunity to facilities operating compliant newborn safety devices unless the act or omission constitutes gross negligence or willful or wanton misconduct.

• Allows persons who voluntarily leave a newborn in a safety device to remain anonymous without obligation to disclose their identity, with exemptions from certain information-sharing requirements that apply to other relinquishments.

• Requires all covered facilities to post conspicuous signs informing the public that newborn infants may be left in a newborn safety device at the facility.
