• Requires recognized certifications to include at least 40 hours of training, 3,000 hours of supervised experience providing peer support, letters of recommendation from a mental health professional and supervisor, and passage of an examination on core competencies.

• Allows the Department to establish registration fees sufficient to cover credential evaluation and registry maintenance costs.

• Permits the Department of Healthcare and Family Services to use these standards to support third-party reimbursement for clinically integrated peer support specialist services.

• Protects the ability of individuals with lived mental illness experience to provide informal peer-to-peer support outside clinical settings and does not restrict other peer support specialist reimbursement models.
