SB3990 Summary

• Amends the Public Employee Disability Act to allow eligible employees an extension of up to 60 days of continued pay when circumstances hinder physical recovery from a work-related injury within the standard one-year benefit period.

• Applies to state correctional officers, Department of Corrections employees, Prisoner Review Board employees, Department of Human Services employees in penal or mental health facilities, law enforcement officers, and firefighters/paramedics employed by the State or local public entities.

• Allows employing public entities to require proof of the circumstances hindering an employee's physical recovery before granting the 60-day extension.

• Maintains existing provisions that injured employees continue receiving full salary on the same basis as before injury, with no deductions from sick leave, compensatory time, vacation, or pension service credits during the disability period.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
