IL SB4012

Expands Statewide Grand Jury authority to investigate and indict offenses involving corruption of public officials, including theft, fraud, and extortion related to public office.

Adds violations of Articles 33 and 33E of the Criminal Code (Official Misconduct and Public Contracts) to the list of crimes a Statewide Grand Jury may investigate.

Establishes that venue for trial of public corruption offenses may be in any county where any portion of the offense occurred, rather than being limited to a single county.

Maintains existing Statewide Grand Jury authority over narcotics trafficking, money laundering, terrorism-related offenses, firearms violations, gang-related crimes, and computer-facilitated child exploitation.

Requires Attorney General application to Chief Justice of Supreme Court to convene a Statewide Grand Jury, with Circuit Judge determination that multi-county investigation is necessary.
