The facility has remained unoccupied for seven years, costing the state approximately $500,000 annually in maintenance while posing safety and environmental risks to local residents.

Environmental cleanup studies estimate costs of $12,400,000, with the Village of Tinley Park bearing the expense of investigating these environmental risks.

Senate urges Governor JB Pritzker and the Director of the Department of Central Management Services to conduct three independent appraisals required by Illinois State law to facilitate the property's sale.
